Offered here is a handsome pair of vintage S. Bent & Bros. “Colonial” Windsor-style chairs, made in Gardner, Massachusetts. Both chairs feature tall spindle backs, shaped solid wood seats, turned legs and stretchers, black-painted frames, and decorative floral detailing across the curved crest rails. Each chair retains the impressed S. Bent & Bros. / Gardner, Mass. / Colonial Chairs maker’s mark underneath the seat. These have a wonderful traditional New England / Colonial Revival look and present especially well as a pair. They would work nicely as dining chairs, occasional chairs, entryway seating, desk chairs, or decorative accent pieces. The two seats have slightly different tone and patina, as shown in the photographs. The frames show normal vintage wear including scratches, rubbing, finish loss, small marks, and wear to portions of the decorative finish. Some joints have clearly been re-glued during the chairs’ lifetime. Both chairs are presently structurally sound and feel solid in use.
