Gilt/gold luster sponge paint; gilt/gold luster leaf edges and veins. Without further ado and any more research, it's time for me to list these! Research has turned up the following descriptive phrases for this pair: "Charming but Crude" (I agree!); Victorian Slop-Gilt; Staffordshire Assembly Ware, and Industrial Spongeware. Dated to the late 19th or early 20th century. Note the base markings: Identical impressed mold/shape number "349," workman's initials, and a single artisan's "z" stamp in gilt/gold luster on the bottom of one. These art pottery cachepots have a uniform cream gloss glaze on both the interior and exterior. Crazing is present but subtle; no structural cracks or damage to the body. Some flower petals and one leaf are broken, as shown in photos.  Pair is being sold as-is. Note: The distinction between the terms gold, gilt, gilding, gold leaf, gold luster, and metallic bronze is still a mystery to me.  Suffice it to say that when light reflects on the areas in question, they shine a warm yellow gold in color, as can be seen in photos. This delicate antique pair will be meticulously and securely packaged to ensure safe transit. Each cachepot will be individually boxed, secured with sturdy foam so as not to touch the applied florals, and then packaged together in a sturdy exterior box.
