Deep crimson color is dramatic without relying on traditional rhinestone sparkle. A spectacular vintage brooch absolutely loaded with richly saturated ruby red glass cabochons. The dimensional circular design centers on a large domed translucent red jelly glass cabochon surrounded by a full ring of elongated marquise-shaped red glass cabochons, with additional round domed cabochons extending around the perimeter. Every stone has a smooth cabochon surface, creating a glowing, almost liquid appearance rather than the sparkle of traditional faceted rhinestones. The combination of different cabochon shapes and sizes gives the brooch exceptional dimension. The deep ruby glass is individually prong set in warm gold-tone metal with openwork spaces between the stones, allowing light to pass around the translucent red glass and intensify its color. Red is one of the harder colors to encounter in vintage costume jewelry, particularly in pieces using large quantities of red glass cabochons.
