Finish: The piece is left entirely unglazed , resulting in a soft, matte, realistic texture . Painted Fancy Feathered Eyelashes. Single Stroke Eyebrows. Wire Jointed Shoulder, Hips, and Swivel Neck Head. Painted lips. Closed Mouth. Hair: Blonde wavy mohair glued on a cap. Painted Nostrils. Painted white socks with light blue trim on the top of the socks. Painted black Mary Jane single-strap molded Louis (AKA Louie) French heel shoes. At this miniature scale, a "high heel" on a doll isn't a sharp spike like a modern stiletto; instead, it is a delicate, sculpted S-curve shape where the heel pinches inward slightly in the middle and gently flares back out at the base. Mold number: no mold number. Why a Premium Simon & Halbig Doll Would Have No Mold Number It is an Early 1880s "French Market" Doll: Prior to the mid-to-late 1880s, Simon & Halbig regularly left their tiny, elite mignonettes completely unmarked. These high-end all-bisque dolls were specifically made to be exported to boutique toy shops in Paris. French distributors often preferred that German factory markings were left off so the dolls looked entirely French to wealthy buyers.  Only elite factories like Simon & Halbig spent the extra time and artistry to sculpt a high-fashion curved Louis heel onto a doll under 4 inches tall. It Targets "French Market" Collectors: French collectors in the 1880s and 1890s demanded that their dolls look like sophisticated Parisian ladies, right down to their shoes. Having a Louis heel elevates your doll from a standard "dollhouse child" to a highly coveted French-market mignonette , which naturally commands a higher price tag from serious buyers. 1. The Cap: Woven or Crocheted Bucram/Gauze Cap Mohair,  the silky wool of the Angora goat,  is very soft and holding the wave.  Mohair possesses a beautiful natural luster and accepts dyes exceptionally well. More importantly, it holds tight, springy curls beautifully.  The fibers are not glued directly to the porcelain skull one by one. Instead, the mohair strands are sewn into a form-fitting pate or mesh, gauze, stretch-cotton, or cheesecloth, or buckram wig cap, a very thin material folded over the head stiffened with sizing . The interior cap structure is what receives the adhesive to bond securely to the doll's head.    Condition: Very good antique condition. Blonde Long Wavy Mohair Wig Glued On. There is a sharp piece of metal sticking out from under the glued on wig. Replaced crocheted light green and cream dress. Working condition and may need tightening of wire joints. Face is in wonderful condition; the rest of the body has dirt and pitting of the material, but does not appear to be damaged in any other way. Nice matte all-bisque unglazed finish. Condition: Used.
