Not all items show up in the E-Bay search!      The History of The Anchor Hocking Glass Company Anchor Hocking first came into existence when Isaac J. Collins & six friends raised $8,000 to buy the Lancaster Carbon Company located in Lancaster, Ohio in 1905. Collins had been working in the decorating department of the Ohio Flint Glass Company at the time. Needing more than the $8,000 that was raised, Collins enlisted help from E.B. Good, who provided an additional $17,000. Collins was then able to begin Hocking Glass Company, named for the Hocking River near which the plant was located. In 1924 the company was reduced to ashes by a tremendous fire. The company was able to raise enough money in order to re-build. Also in 1924, the company purchased controlling interest in the Lancaster Glass Company & The Standard Glass Manufacturing Company. With the development of a revolutionary machine that pressed glass automatically the company was saved when the Great depression hit. In 1931 Hocking Glass Company entered the glass container business when they purchased The General Glass Company, which in turn acquired Turner Glass Company. In 1934, Hocking & its subsidiary developed the first one-way beer bottle. Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation came into existence on December 31, 1937, when Anchor Cap & Closure Corporation & its subsidiaries merged with Hocking Glass Company The  word "Glass" was dropped from the company's name in 1969.
