Both belonged to my grandfather and have remained in the family for decades. The second has a silver-tone setting with a wonderfully unusual polished round stone featuring a mottled black, gray and pink/mauve pattern. Two vintage tie tacks, two completely different personalities—and both straight out of my grandfather’s collection. Offered here is a great pair of vintage men’s tie tacks, believed to date from approximately the 1950s or 1960s. Both belonged to my grandfather and have remained in the family for decades. The first has a warm gold-tone setting centered around a dark, faceted jewel. The stone appears nearly black in some lighting but picks up deep brown tones and flashes of color as the light moves across its facets. I have not tested the stone, so I’m leaving its exact material unidentified. The second has a silver-tone setting with a wonderfully unusual polished round stone featuring a mottled black, gray and pink/mauve pattern. It has a very different character from the gold-tone piece and is particularly eye-catching up close. Both retain their original chains and T-bar fasteners, giving them that unmistakable old-school men’s-accessory look. They’re wonderfully evocative of an era when a tie wasn’t quite finished until you added a little hardware to it. Neither piece carries a maker’s mark that I can find, so they are being sold as unbranded. Both are in good preowned vintage condition, showing normal age-related surface wear and patina consistent with pieces believed to be roughly 60–70 years old. They have not been aggressively polished or restored. Please examine the photographs carefully for the best representation of their condition. These aren’t modern reproductions trying to capture mid-century style—they’re genuine vintage pieces from my grandfather’s personal collection.
