We have attached this great medal to a 24" continuous stainless steel chain.  This chain has no clasp, so it's easy to slip on and off over your head (fits over most size heads).    Comes gift boxed and with a St John XXIII prayer card, plus a gift bag and tissue paper.  We always extra prayer cards of our choice, but if you have any favorite saints or Catholic devotions, send me a message when you purchase and if I have those cards I will include them! Angelo Roncalli was certainly surprised when he was elected pope - he had a return ticket to Venice which he expected to use after the conclave!  Expected to be a "stop-gap" pope, he surprised everyone by calling for a new ecumenical council - called the Second Vatican Council - the first one being the Council of Trent in the 16th century. Through it, the familiar Roman Catholic liturgy experienced great changes, such as saying the Mass in the vernacular (the language of the people rather than Latin).  From the council we also have a stronger emphasis on ecumenism and a new view of the world.  Before being elected pope, Cardinal Roncalli was a papal delegate, or "nuncio"; and during World War II used his office to intervene in the saving of many Jews threatened by the Holocaust.  One of his acts as pope was to confess the sin of Anti-Semitism committed over the centuries by the church.   He was beatified by Pope John Paul II; and in 2013 Pope Francis announced that he was dispensing with the "second miracle" requirement for sainthood for Pope John XXIII and would canonize him on the basis of his actions in bringing about the Second Vatican Council; and of course, a study of his life would show that this was a very holy man indeed, certainly worthy of joining the Saints in Heaven.  His patronage is Papal nuncios or delegates.
