Signed and sealed. Otani Kubutsu(1875-1943)was a Japanese monk and haiku poet. He was the 23rd head priest of Higashi Hongan-ji Temple in Kyoto. Painting: W10 5/8” x H47 1/4” (W27cm x H120cm). Crane and Calligraphy. Painted with ink and light pigments on silk. Signed and sealed. Otani Kubutsu(1875-1943)was a Japanese monk and haiku poet. He was the 23rd head priest of Higashi Hongan-ji Temple in Kyoto. He learned calligraphy as well as painting from various schools and studied painting from some prominent artists such as Kono Bairei(1844-1895) and Takeuchi Seiho(1864-1942).
