I purchased this substantial brooch to wear to a formal affair but never wore it. It has been stored for many years in its original box. This brooch is reminiscent of the Victorian era, where family jewels were handed down through generations. This is a statement brooch with its elegant design of brilliant sparkling crystals arranged in the shape of a Maltese cross, textured accents, and large faux pearls arranged around the shape of a cross. It will be forever in style. The brooch is approximately 2 7/8” W x 2 7/8” L. The brooch is in gunmetal, which highlights the large silver tone faux Pearl cabachons and the large center crystal and surrounding smaller crystals that form the cross, making them pop and sparkle.  When I was working I purchased many of Joan Rivers pins and brooches to wear on my jackets or dresses because they represent HOPE. This brooch is so special because it can be worn many ways with the standard pin clasp in the center back. It can be worn as a cross, highlighting the crystals or as a “X” highlight the large pearl cabachons. Ms. Rivers is known for her expensive jewelry and fashion sense. She wanted to design a product line that the average person could afford using her expertise and influence with manufacturers. She used her own “one of a kind” expensive vintage fine and fashion jewelry to replicate a lot of her fashion jewelry and accessories. She used the highest quality of materials in the replication. This brooch is an example of that workmanship and design. This is the kind of brooch that looks like a designer “one of kind” that can usually be found only in boutiques or high end stores. She always said we   all can achieve the impossible everyday with faith. I have been through a lot of challenges in my life, and sometimes we need reminders to be an overcomer. The original box, pouch, and Joan Rivers card are included. In 1990, Joan Rivers was asked by QVC to develop a cosmetic line for sale on their site, instead she convinced the CEO to allow her to develop and design a high end costume jewelry line that was affordable to not only upper class but hard working middle class women. QVC accepted the offer and in September of that year she began what would be 24 years of designing jewelry, accessories, clothing until her death. She would appear on QVC periodically with her products and dazzle viewers with her expertise in fashion and jewelry design. She is best known for her remarkable bee pins and accessories. She often acknowledged that working with QVC and its many viewers was a huge point of pride for her. She owned an extensive collection of expensive fine and costume jewelry, which she used to design and make great accessories for all women, while inspiring and incorporating her style and high standards for quality in every piece. I have retired and I am downsizing my own personal collection of jewelry. All items are authentic and were purchased from a reputable retailer.
