NEW VINTAGE Joan Rivers Black Iridescent 8 Strand Glass Bead Gunmetal Necklace.  This is a beautiful Joan Rivers glass beaded necklace I purchased many years ago but never wore. It has black Iridescent faceted glass beads reflecting Purple, Blue, Lilac, Green, and Gold. On a light colored fabric, the colors are vibrant and lighter (think Spring and Summer);on darker fabric, their colors become richer and darker (think Fall and Winter). This is definitely a necklace for all seasons. The glass beads are faceted to reflect light with every movement. The chain, over sized lobster claw clasp, and extension chain are all done in gunmetal.  This is a vintage style piece of jewelry that looks centuries old with the rondel-shaped, faceted glass colored beads to the darker gunmetal rosary-style links. Ms. Rivers is known for her expensive jewelry and wardrobe. She wanted to design a product line that the average working woman could afford using her expertise and influence with manufacturers. She used her own “one of kind” expensive vintage fine and costume jewelry and haute couture fashions to replicate a lot of her own line of clothing and accessories. She used the highest quality of material (think glass , not plastic or faux beads in this necklace), in the replication. This necklace is an example of that workmanship and design. All of the light reflecting colored glass beads were skillfully designed to accent each other to create a beautiful designer piece and contemporary masterpiece. It has all of the metal and soft rainbow colors to work with anything in your wardrobe. This is a “one of a kind” handcrafted designer piece that you would only see in boutiques or high end retailers. It was designed by Ms. Rivers to be a fun and glamours piece for generations. In 1990, Joan Rivers was asked by QVC to develop a cosmetic line for sale on their site, instead she convinced the CEO to allow her to develop and design a high end costume jewelry line that was affordable to not only upper class but hard working middle class women. QVC accepted the offer and in September of that year she began what would be 24 years of designing jewelry, accessories, clothing until her death. She would appear on QVC periodically with her products and dazzle viewers with her expertise in fashion and jewelry design. She is best known for her remarkable bee pins and accessories. She often acknowledged that working with QVC and its many viewers was a huge point of pride for her. She owned an extensive collection of expensive fine and costume jewelry, which she used to design and make great accessories for all women, while inspiring and incorporating her style and high standards for quality in every piece. I am now retired and downsizing my own personal jewelry collection. All items are authentic and were purchased from reputable retailers. Most of the jewelry is new in the original pouch and boxes. All items have been stored in my climate controlled smoke free home since purchasing. The original box and paperwork for this necklace were destroyed in the last hurricane.
