This a listing for a rare vintage Jacqueline Kennedy reproduction necklace in Rhodium plated silver tone with Swarovski simulated Amethyst and clear simulated diamond crystals. The necklace is approximately 16.75” with an 3.25” extension in length. This is one of the earliest JBK pieces I purchased and it has been stored since purchasing. It comes with the original blue box and certificate of authenticity plus Camrose & Kross card. I have found most of  the vintage JBK pieces are in the blue boxes. I was in high school when Jacqueline Kennedy became First Lady. All of the girls in my class were infatuated with her and her style. She was our “Princess”. When Camrose and Kross began reproducing Jacqueline Kennedy jewelry in 1986, I was hooked, especially with the pearls. I was a working woman on a fixed salary, who had to dress professionally. I loved the yellow gold plating, affordable faux gems (Jackie’s original jewelry contained rare and flawless gemstones), designer looking luxury, Austrian Swarovski Crystals that sparkle like real diamonds, and the Camrose and Kross collection was affordable. I have been collecting the Jacqueline Kennedy jewelry over many years and have decided to downsize my collection. I will be selling both new and preowned jewelry in the original Camrose and Kross fine jewelry velour covered steel cases in the future.  This necklace is an earlier rare piece, the original story is that John F. Kennedy gave this necklace to Jackie in October, 1956. The Senator and Jackie were expecting a baby girl in October 1956 but due to complications, Jackie gave birth to a stillborn daughter, Arabella, in August of that year. It was devastating for both of them, especially Jackie, who was staying with her mother while JFK was campaigning for the Democratic Party. The necklace was commissioned and crafted by Van Cleef & Arpels, a French luxury jewelry shop, according to a design by JFK. The gift of Amethyst stones must have had a special meaning for both of them but it remains a mystery why. The necklace was treasured by Jackie throughout her life and was a source of comfort. The original necklace was crafted in Platinum and Amethyst.The necklace is very elegant but casual, too. It would be perfect for both the office and evening wear. The simplistic design and a complement to any wardrobe. It would be perfect for a February birthday person. Camrose and Kross reproduced Jacqueline Kennedy jewelry for over 30 years beginning in 1986 with the brand “JBK” ending in 2016 by breaking all molds. Camrose and Kross approached Jacqueline Kennedy about reproduction of her jewelry, both fine and costume. Actually Ms. Kennedy owned a larger percentage of designer costume jewelry than fine jewelry. Her largest jewelry collection were her crosses.The goal of the company was to produce faithful and accurate reproductions in fine costume fashion jewelry of Ms. Kennedy’s handpicked favorite pieces. Her favorites were from JFK, her parents, gifts in the White House days, and from Aristotle Onassis. She wanted the reproductions to accurately present the original pieces; therefore, molds were cast and all stones carefully researched and approved by Ms. Kennedy. The pieces would be cast in jewelers metal, usually pewter or brass, and plated in 18 kt Yellow Gold (18 kt gold was used in Europe and with fine designer companies at the time when her original pieces were purchased) or Rhodium (White Gold or Platinum). The finest simulated precious stones, Swarovski crystals or cubic zircons were used. The jewelry was so exact that each piece had to weight the same as the original. Ms. Kennedy oversaw all designs and plans for accuracy. Ms. Kennedy’s jewelry sold through Camrose and Kross came in the same luxurious velour covered steel boxes as the originals.Camrose & Kross is an American company and their earlier pieces were made in USA but at some point they did begin manufacturing in China and these pieces will show China on the back of the piece. Each piece had a history and Phil Katz, Kennedy historian, would tell, respectively and informatively, viewers on shows the history of each piece and show pictures of Ms. Kennedy wearing them. Her original jewelry pieces were either auctioned off at Sotheby’s, donated to the JFK Presidential Library & Museum in Boston, or retained by the family members, after her death. Ms. Kennedy knew the art of fashion and accessorizing because she came from a very elite family with social circles in New York City and Long Island. It was her father, Jack Bouvier, that taught her about fashion and jewelry. His statement to her was “style is what you are”. He planted the seed for her love fashion and matching jewelry, either fine or costume, which she used in the future. She dressed, changing sometimes 3 times a day, and accessorized exceptionally, setting new trends in clothing, jewelry, hats, handbags, and shoes. Van Cleef & Arpels and Tiffany were some of her high end designers but she also loved costume jewelry from small boutiques or antique shops. She joined with Camrose and Kross to reproduce high quality jewelry that was affordable for the working woman and stay at home moms that looked like high end designer “one of a kind” pieces. Ms. Kennedy died in 1994 and Camrose and Kross discontinued her jewelry in 2016. The JBK jewelry was sold originally in high end boutiques, jewelry shops, television, and on cruise ships. The jewelry is retired now and can only be purchased on the secondary market. Some early pieces are very rare. All jewelry comes with a certificate of authenticity and Camrose and Kross memory card. I am now retired and downsizing my own personal jewelry collection. All items are authentic and were purchased from reputable retailers. Most of the jewelry is new in the original pouch and boxes.
