Exceptional antique Victorian to Edwardian stick pin featuring a large dark opal cabochon measuring approximately 13mm x 10mm (SEE RULER TO CONFIRM) The stone displays vivid flashes of electric blue, emerald green, and bright orange-gold fire against a dramatic dark body color. The backside even glows somewhat a bright orange yellow color.   Unlike the small white opals commonly found in antique stick pins, this example features a substantial opal with remarkable depth and visual impact. The stone exhibits a striking band of color running through the center, creating a beautiful "river of fire" effect that changes with movement and lighting. When illuminated from behind, the opal glows with rich amber, yellow, and orange tones, demonstrating impressive translucency. The appearance is consistent with a dark crystal opal and/or black boulder opal, though the stone is offered as found and without gemological certification. The mounting PRONGS have tested 9k gold but we could not get an accurate read on the base itself kept getting the prongs too.   Could be gold-filled and is being sold accordingly. The pin stem is almost 2 1/2" long. Substantial claw-set mounting are consistent with Victorian to Edwardian examples dating approximately 1890-1915. Collectors of antique opals will appreciate the unusual combination of dark body color, strong blue-green-orange fire, and larger-than-average size. A very eye-catching example that stands apart from most antique opal stick pins encountered today. CONDITION: Very good antique condition with normal age-related wear. Strong blue, green, and orange fire visible under various lighting conditions. No obvious crazing noted under normal inspection.
