T o me, mother of pearl necklace is in great preowned/vintage condition, meaning lovingly worn, well taken care of and wear consistent with age and use. They are nice, solid, quality beads.  I do not see any notable flaws. The mother of pearl beads are a nice size and the necklace has a nice weight of 110 grams!  Both my son (a strong 21-year-old) and I tried to open the barrel clasp. At really close inspection, it looks like it may just be a faux clasp that doesn’t open. Perhaps it was a replacement if the beads were restrung - I have no idea. Most gals will wear it as is.  I thought it looked cute how I displayed it. If I was going to keep it, I would put on a regular clasp so I could double it up if I wanted to because I love that style also. It looks like an easy thing to do. I do not clean or polish jewelry because many folks prefer to purchase vintage/preowned jewelry as found or with some patina. I do not want to ruin any pieces using any harsh chemicals, so I leave all cleaning & polishing up to the discretion of the buyer . Please note: On occasion, some items marked and tested gold & silver may have a light magnetic draw around areas where other metal may be used to make the jewelry such as a clasp, underlying base metal chains/ wire metals, soldered areas, etc. this is common. Sterling silver and Rhodium are not magnetic; however, other magnetic metals may be and are often used as a base in the manufacturing process of Rhodium or gold plating (vermeil) to adhere the topcoat to sterling.  I am finding this much more common in newer, mass-produced sterling jewelry with gold vermeil & Rhodium plating or beaded sterling jewelry with metal wires. I bring this up because although there is a lot of fake silver & gold out there, some folks think if a piece of jewelry marked sterling or 925 is magnetic then it must be fake, which is not necessarily true. Manufacturers mark sterling jewelry with gold vermeil or rhodium plating with a simple 925 or sterling. They are not obligated to add additional plating information, so they do not.
