Wonderful 2-book vintage Italian-language cookbook lot featuring two substantial volumes devoted to classic and regional Italian cuisine. Both books are written in Italian and are filled with traditional recipes, period illustrations and beautiful vintage food photography. An especially appealing set for an Italian cooking enthusiast, chef, cookbook collector, Italian-American family, or anyone interested in authentic regional culinary history. Included in this lot: 1. La Grande Cucina — Luigi Carnacina — Garzanti An impressive oversized vintage Italian culinary reference by celebrated gastronome Luigi Carnacina. Bound in striking red with gold lettering, this is a wonderfully substantial old-school cookbook covering classic Italian and European cookery in extensive detail. The interior contains an enormous collection of recipes along with illustrations and full-color food photography. This copy has a handwritten Italian gift inscription on the title page addressed to Caterina and referencing Rome, adding a wonderful bit of personal history and provenance to the book. There is also a small vintage return-address label from a previous owner in Reno, Nevada. The original dust jacket is no longer present, but the red hardcover itself displays beautifully and gives the book tremendous vintage character. 2. Il Mestolo d'Oro delle Cucine Regionali dall'A alla Z — Guido Mondani Editore — 1979 Beautiful oversized hardcover devoted to the traditional regional cuisines of Italy, published in Genoa by Guido Mondani Editore in 1979. Recipe research is credited to Alda Vicenzone. This impressive volume contains more than 1,200 traditional Italian recipes organized around the country's regional cooking traditions. Throughout the book are charming culinary illustrations as well as dramatic full-page color photographs of classic dishes, pasta, seafood and regional specialties. A wonderful snapshot of traditional Italian cooking before the modern reinterpretation of many regional dishes — this feels as much like a culinary archive as a cookbook. Both volumes are entirely in Italian . These books make an especially distinctive pairing: one a monumental work of classic Italian gastronomy, the other a richly illustrated exploration of Italy's regional cooking traditions. Condition: Both books are pre-owned vintage volumes and show age-appropriate cosmetic wear. La Grande Cucina is in good vintage condition overall. Original dust jacket is absent. Red hardcover shows some surface rubbing, scuffs and edge/corner wear consistent with age. Interior remains attractive and usable. Contains a handwritten Italian gift inscription on the title page and a small vintage return-address label from a previous owner. Il Mestolo d'Oro is in good to very good vintage condition overall, with light shelf/edge wear to the cover/dust jacket consistent with age. Interior pages and color photographs present very nicely.
