View A LARGE JAPANESE ARITA BLUE & WHITE CHARGER "WILLOW PATTERN" LATE EDO PERIOD with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. The blue is intense and inky. The back stamp is an underglaze blue square mark. It is in very good to excellent condition. This is a large blue and white charger decorated with the river scene, a version of the Chinese Canton river scene. The octagonal shape is classic Japanese - a square with "clipped" corners. The border decorations are geometric diapers of squares and diamonds; and cartouches showcasing prunus and pine; the corners are stylized moths or butterflies. The blue is intense and inky. The back stamp is an underglaze blue square mark. The charger measures 13" x 13" from one side to the other side; 151/2" x 15 1/2" from corner to corner. The charger weighs 4 lbs. 13 oz..
