As I understand it, this probably dates it as pre-1921 as I understand that export laws were changed in 1921 and required a place of origin be marked on a product, which is this case would be "Japan". This listing is for (1) 24 piece set of Antique Blue and White porcelain "Lusterware" with silver handles and trim.  Lusterware is a type of porcelain that has been finished with a metallic glaze that gives the effect of iridescence when fired. From what I read, it is produced by metallic oxides in an overglaze finish which is given a 2nd firing at a lower temperature.  To me, it reminds me a "Mother of Pearl" type of finish and it is very captivating.  24 PIECE SET INCLUDES: 1 tea pot with 1 matching lid (marked "Noritake Nippon" and signed in silver with artist's name "R.W.Collier" 1 sugar bowl with 1 matching lid (marked "Noritake Nippon") 1 creamer (marked "Noritake Nippon") 1 footed 7.75" bowl (mark is there but illegible) 6 tea cups (marked "RS w/"star and wreath" mark and words "SILESIA" beneath the mark 6 saucers (marked "RS" w/"star and wreath" mark and words "SILESIA" beneath the mark 6 (8.5") luncheon plates (marked JHR BAVARIA except for 1 which is different and shown in pictures)  This set was my grandmother's and I have been its appreciative "custodian" for the last 50 years. Now we're getting ready to downsize to a much smaller house so I need a new home for it--preferably with someone who will love it as much as I have. It has lived in a mahogany corner cabinet and it is one of those possessions that although I have NEVER used it since I don't really entertain or drink tea, I have loved having it and enjoyed admiring it as it is THAT BEAUTIFUL!  My grandmother would be 142 years old today so that attests to this set being very old--not to mention, my being old as well!  I can tell you that my pictures do not do this set justice! It is absolutely beautiful and the lusterware finish is exquisite! There are various Makers Marks on the pieces but the teapot, creamer and sugar bowl have "Noritake Nippon" on them. As I understand it, this probably dates it as pre-1921 as I understand that export laws were changed in 1921 and required a place of origin be marked on a product, which is this case would be "Japan".  The tea cups, saucers and plates appear to be made by European manufacturer as they have different Makers Marks of Silesia and Bavaria. (You can see the various marks detailed above in my listing.) All have the same silver trim and blue lusterware color although the teapot, creamer and sugar pieces in some lights look to be a very, very slight bit darker than the other pieces but still in the same tones. I will tell you that the color variation is hardly noticeable because it took me 50 years to notice this and it is only when photographing them for this listing! The pieces are all in GREAT condition but there is a very small chip in one of the plates which I have shown in my pictures. ( I have taken a picture from the front and the back and it is much less noticeable from the front as you can see.) Other than that, there may be an occasional "skip" in the finish as with all handmade and painted dinnerware, and especially of this vintage. I have taken numerous pictures so you can see their condition. There is no paint loss that I can see in the silver rimming or handles.  The tea pot is quite special as in addition to the Noritake Nippon Makers Mark, there is the signature of the artist, R.W. Collier in silver script.  I have taken numerous pictures so you can see the condition of the set. I take great care in packing and tend to "overpack" so shipping may seem high. It doesn't do me or you any good to have a much anticipated item arrive broken.
