This miniature copy of Raphael's portrait of the Madonna, the Christ child and a young John the Baptist is hand painted on a 3.25" porcelain plaque and dates to the late 19th to early 20th century. The original 28" tondo "Madonna della Sedia (or Seggiola)" (also known as "Madonna of the Chair") was painted by Raphael in Italy during the High Renaissance in the early 1500s. This miniature copy of Raphael's portrait of the Madonna, the Christ child and a young John the Baptist is hand painted on a 3.25" porcelain plaque and dates to the late 19th to early 20th century. The plaque is mounted upon a green suede backing and set in a gilt wood frame. This plaque measures 3.25" in diameter and the frame is a bit over 6.5" in diameter. The high quality of the hand painting on this plaque suggests that it may have been produced by the German ceramics manufactory KPM. But, since I prefer not to take this piece apart to look at the back of the plaque,  I've priced this based solely on its beauty, condition and age. The plaque and the frame are in very good overall condition, with a few small scratches (shown) commensurate with age. It's ready to hang. The original 28" tondo "Madonna della Sedia (or Seggiola)" (also known as "Madonna of the Chair") was painted by Raphael in Italy during the High Renaissance in the early 1500s.
