The porcelain was produced by one of the several factories in the city of Carlsbad (now Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic). About Lewis Straus & Sons Company timeline: Lazarus and Isidor Straus founded the importing firm L. Straus & Son in 1865. The name was changed to L. Straus & Sons after Lazarus's other sons, Nathan and Oscar, joined the firm. The LS&S mark was used on porcelain from roughly 1895 until 1917. The Straus family: The Straus family was well-known in New York. Isidor Straus, who ran the business, tragically died with his wife, Ida, on the Titanic in 1912.
