A beautiful Victorian amberina glass pitcher in the classic thumbprint (optic) pattern — free-blown with a bulbous body, graceful neck, pinched pouring spout, and applied amber handle. The amberina color shading moves dramatically from warm yellow-amber at the rim and handle through rich peach-rose at the shoulder to deep ruby-cranberry at the base — the characteristic heat-sensitive color transition that made amberina one of the most celebrated American art glass innovations of the 1880s. The thumbprint pattern — a field of concave oval impressions covering the lower two-thirds of the body — catches and refracts light beautifully across the full color spectrum, from deep ruby at the base to golden amber above. The applied handle matches the upper amber tone. The base shows a rough pontil confirming hand production. Amberina was developed in the early 1880s and produced by leading American glasshouses including New England Glass Company and Hobbs Brockunier. No maker's mark is present — typical for this type.
