Beautiful vintage Made in Japan decorative metal box featuring detailed raised relief scenes of traditional Japanese architecture and gardens. The lid depicts an elaborate temple/palace-style building surrounded by traditional rooftops, landscaping and a curved bridge. Additional scenic relief decoration continues around the sides, giving the box visual interest from every angle. The exterior has a dark aged metal finish with areas of green/bronze-toned patina and exposed metal on the raised details. The interior compartment is wood lined, while the underside of the lid is metal. Hinged construction. The bottom is stamped “MADE IN JAPAN” and also bears a small circular impressed maker/device mark. Maker is currently unidentified. A wonderful display piece for a collection of Japanese decorative arts, vintage metalware, Asian décor, cigarette boxes or small keepsake/trinket boxes. Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with substantial age-related patina, oxidation/verdigris, surface wear, scratches, discoloration and finish loss throughout. Interior wood shows staining, darkening and wear from age/use. Hinge shows oxidation and wear. These characteristics have been left untouched to preserve the aged finish.
