David Andersen RARE EXTREMELY RARE Sterling Silver Enamel LUCKY ELEPHANT CHARM in Aqua Blue *These elephant charms hardly ever come to market, in 20+yrs collecting, I have seen them on twice* David-Andersen now hyphenated, the modern rebrand of the house, included this slight name change, by far, the most renowned, of Scandinavian jewelry houses, the business has been producing high quality goods since 1876, the second generation, after the founder's death in 1901, led by the son Arthur Andersen, introduced new designs, expanded their reach beyond Norway, exporting silverware, jewelry and decorative objects across Europe... increasing their visibility but maintaining the highest standards and never forfeiting their stature. The newer designs now came with colorful enameling, the popularity of these designs was such that soon, enameling became the DNA running through Scandinavian decorative arts and jewelry. This splendid enamel work's vivid, glass-like finishing is beyond compare, just think the pieces you see today in many cases can be decades old.. as much as 70yrs old. In my estimation, the guilloché, the decorative engraving techique where precise, intricate and repetitive geometric patterns which are mechanically carved into the silver using a specialized lathe or engine turning machine that cut fine overlapping curved lines and grooves, the surface where the translucent colored enamel is layered over the metal engraving...definitively is their best work... mesmerizing in their beauty... you can see this technique employed on watch dials.
