Charming vintage architectural cottage figurine depicting an elaborate English Tudor-style manor house , with half-timbered walls, warm terracotta-colored tiled roofs, detailed stonework, lattice windows, climbing greenery, cobblestone pathways, and an arched passageway. The design bears a very strong resemblance to David Winter’s 1985 “Squires Hall” cottage , although this example is not marked David Winter or John Hine and is being offered as an unbranded piece . There are several small differences in the architectural details, landscaping, and coloration when compared with authenticated Squires Hall examples. It appears to be made from a heavy cast resin or resin/stone composite , a material commonly used for highly detailed miniature architectural collectibles. At nearly 2¼ lbs., it has a surprisingly substantial feel for its size. The decoration appears individually hand finished, with an impressive amount of detail throughout. Features include black-and-white Tudor timbering, numerous leaded-style windows, individually modeled roof tiles, stone walls, a cobbled courtyard and walkway, climbing greenery with tiny red blossoms, and a large brick chimney. The design is attractive from every angle. The underside is covered in red felt and retains an older paper label reading “The Mortar & Pestle.” I was unable to find evidence identifying The Mortar & Pestle as the manufacturer of this cottage, so I believe this was most likely a retailer or gift-shop label rather than a maker’s mark. Based on its close relationship to the David Winter design introduced in 1985, construction, and overall appearance, I would estimate this example to date from approximately the late 1980s to 1990s , although its exact maker and production date remain unknown. It is in excellent vintage condition . I carefully inspected the piece and did not find any chips, cracks, broken architectural elements, or repairs. The detailed foliage, rooflines, windows, walls, and other delicate areas appear remarkably well preserved. It is clean and ready for display. A wonderful substantial display piece for a collection of English cottages, Tudor architecture, miniature houses, or traditional village décor.
