View Antique RPPC Real Photo WW1 American Camp Arrival of Detachment Allery Postcard with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. It was designed to include ten hospitals, each with 1,000 beds, and a total area of nearly 1,000 acres. A spur line was built from the Allerey train station to the center of the camp to transport wounded soldiers. A postcard that has been posted in the mail. This postcard has been stored in a plastic sleeve since the 1960s. This is a vintage postcard depicting the arrival of a detachment of American soldiers at a camp in Allerey, France, during World War I.   The postcard is titled "ALLEREY — Camp américain. Arrivée d'un detachement" in French and "American camp. Arrival of a detachement" in English. The publisher is listed as "Edit. Bourgeois Frères, Chalon-s-Saône." The camp was a training and debarkation center for the American Expeditionary Forces in France.  It was a major center for the 86th Infantry Division, nicknamed the "Black Hawk Division," which was activated at Camp Grant in Rockford, Illinois, in 1917. The postcard shows soldiers disembarking from a train, with barracks and other structures visible in the background. This vintage postcard shows the arrival of an American detachment at an American camp in Allerey, France . The postcard, published by Bourgeois Frères in Chalon-s-Saône, depicts soldiers and civilians near a train with military equipment. The Allerey camp was a large American hospital-camp constructed in 1918 to support American forces during World War I. It was designed to include ten hospitals, each with 1,000 beds, and a total area of nearly 1,000 acres. A spur line was built from the Allerey train station to the center of the camp to transport wounded soldiers. This rapid construction, completed in a short amount of time, was noted as a "veritable tour de force" at the time.
