One of the most eye-catching features are the 6 block-shaped light blue T's which are outlined in black with the small white beads. The gold is used extensively outlining the T's, in the scrollwork on the inner rim of the verge and on the 12-sided rim. The violets are painted in purple and lavender with white, raised hightlights nestled in their two tone green leaves. The 6 cartouches that contain the flowers are formed by the block shaped T's. This is most elaborate. CONDITION: While this plate is classified as used, the condition is superb. We find it remarkable that the gold and the paint show no wear. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Although some of the small white beads are unevenly spaced, only one of the block shaped T's has 5 missing white beads. See the photos, particularly #6. DIMENSIONS: The 12 sided plate has a diameter of 7 7/8" and a height of 3/4". HISTORY/MARKS: Morimura Bros. formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing fine bone china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. The backstamp on this set is the green M-in-Wreath Mark. The M-in-Wreath Mark is attributed to Noritake and its forerunner in the 1890’s to 1921 time period. In Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More , David Spain shows that Noritake substituted Japan for Nippon in their backstamps starting in 1918. In ABC’s of Collecting Nippon Porcelain , Van Patten attributes the M-in-Wreath’s blue mark #47 to since 1911. This seems to narrow the window of use for the M-in-Wreath mark to 1911-1918.
