Overview : A 1930s real photo postcard (RPPC) captured by pioneer Alaskan photographer Harry J. Hewitt of Hewitt's Photo Shop in Anchorage. Titled "A Feeding Moose," the photograph captures a wild Alaskan bull moose wading deep into the calm waters of a lake or muskeg pond to feed on submerged aquatic plants. The animal's large palmate antler rack stands out against the dark wall of shoreline spruce and the soft ridges of the Chugach Mountains. Mailed in July 1936 with an Anchorage machine cancellation, the handwritten correspondence includes travel notes regarding an Alaskan trip and visiting local fox pens. Front of Card : A vertical real photograph framed within a white border showing a large bull moose standing chest-deep in rippling lake water. The background is framed by a dense band of evergreen spruce and birch trees rising to rounded mountain slopes. White handwritten negative text reads "#64" and "A Feeding Moose" on the right, with photographer imprint "Hewitt's Photo Shop / Anchorage - Alaska" in the lower right.
