CONDITION: The condition of this decorative creamer and sugar set is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is slight overall age appropriate wear to the gold on the handles. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The creamer handle to spout measures 4 3/8” with a diameter 3 3/4” and a height of 3 15/16”. The sugar handle to handle measures 5 7/8” with a diameter of 5” and a height of the bowl of 2 7/8”. The height to top of the lid is 4 1/4”. HISTORY/MARKS: Morimura Bros. formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing fine bone china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. The backstamp on this piece is the blue Maple Leaf Mark. The Maple Leaf Mark is attributed to Noritake and its forerunner in the 1890’s to 1921 time period. In Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More, David Spain shows that Noritake substituted Japan for Nippon in their backstamps starting in 1918. In ABC’s of Collecting Nippon Porcelain, Van Patten attributes the Maple Leaf blue mark #52 to since 1891-1921. This seems to narrow the window of use for the Maple Leaf mark to 1891-1918.
