Bavaria Tirschenreuth, Bavaria, Germany, circa 1903-1927 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful hand decorated cup & saucer set was produced on a footed mold in the demitasse size. The design looks so classic. The cup & saucer have bright gold bands next to the verge of the saucer, around the waist and foot of the cup, and on the handle of the cup. This is unusual because the rims are not trimmed in gold. There is a blue color line next to the rim of the saucer and on the inside of the cup next to the rim. The focal design is a large vase of flowers in a monochrome blue. This is This is highlighted by scrollwork in the same monochrome blue. The cup is smooth rimmed while the saucer is slightly scalloped. This makes a beautiful display set or can be used everyday. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks & no wear to the gold or color. DIMENSIONS: The cup has a diameter of 2 1/4" with a height of 2 5/16". The saucer has a diameter of 4 3/8" and height of 5/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Carl Magnus Hutschenreuther formed his company in 1814 in Hohenberg an der Eger, Bavaria and his son, Lorenz Hutschenreuther formed his company in 1857 in Selb, Bavaria. This latter company acquired P.T. Porcelain Factory in 1927 and then in 1969 was merged with the former company and continued operation as Hutschenreuther AG (Selb, Bavaria) until 1994 when the Tirschenreuth factory was closed due to bankruptcy. The P. T. Bavaria Porcelain Factory Tirschenreuth was founded in 1838 in Tirshenreuth, Bavaria. After Hutschenreuther purchased the pottery in 1927, the mark was modified. The mark on this is cited by Robert E. Rontgen’s Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain as mark #755 (with Bavaria) which was used 1903-1927 time period.
