These leaves are a darker shade of green with a golden yellow background, as if light was shining on them. This detail is quite unusual and makes this piece a standout. Round bottom of basket is 2 7/8".   Vintage CAPODIMONTE/MAJOLICA FRUIT BASKET Hand Painted Art Italy REALISTIC FIG FRUITS  HYPER-REALISTIC FORM & COLORATION. This magnificent piece is an earlier example of these type of baskets, rustic and quite artistic in style, and very different from the typical tourist-driven pieces produced at later dates Features several unusual & lush details- the handle is in the form and shape of an actual twig/branch, complete with divots and a small twig at top. Encircled along the front and sides by gorgeous, large green leaves in varying shades of green. Deliberately created with uneven edges for a less polished look and a more rustic/realistic result.  There is a crescent shaped line of hanging fruit below the leaves, which are stunningly glorious. They appear to be figs on their stems. Coloration is wonderful.  Below the fruit are hand painted leaves on the 'basket' which appear almost as shadows beneath the dimensional fruit & leaves above. These leaves are a darker shade of green with a golden yellow background, as if light was shining on them. This detail is quite unusual and makes this piece a standout.        Size: 8.5" high, approx 6.5" wide. Opening of basket is just shy of 3.5" across.  Round bottom of basket is 2 7/8" Gorgeous details, handmade individual fruit/leaves are meticulously hand painted and shaded with a glossy finish which looks incredibly realistic and lifelike.  Different from all angles   Nice and heavy, MAGNIFICENT quality. One of a kind.  Extremely collectible: this piece is a true work of Pottery Art- it is NOT the cheaply made, lightweight, glossy Capodimonte pieces frequently found as 'tourist souvenirs'    Excellent condition, pristine and flawless other than a brown paint dot on the inside of the white inner basket [see last pic] visual only, not damage . NO nicks chips cracks damage or repair, in fantastic shape, no fading to richly colored fruit and leaves. All edges of leaves have original glazing, no paint touch ups or minor breaks.   Must have been very carefully looked after  Great for a collector - would look charming out on display as a centerpiece  etc- a showstopper.
