This is painted on a blank of white fine china. This is an old mold with the shell embossing at the rim of both the creamer & sugar. The whimsical design has insects between the wildflower floral sprays. The handle of the creamer is trimmed in a gold. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, it is in superb condition. We can find no chips, cracks, hairlines, nicks, rubbings or repairs. There is wear to the thinly applied stripes of gold on the creamer's handle. This does not distract from the beauty of the set. There appears to be no crazing. See the photos. The lack of utensil scratches attests to the high quality of the fine china. The decorative set is beautiful. DIMENSIONS: The square shaped creamer is 2 5/8" by 2 5/8" while handle to spout is 4 1/2" with a height of 3 1/4" to the top of the spout. To the top of the handle is 3 11/16". The open sugar is also square shaped at 3 3/8" by 3 3/8" with a height of 3 1/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Begun in the 1850's, Vogt & Dose became Tressemann & Vogt when Emillien Tressemann joined the company in 1882. This was essentially a decorating studio which began manufacturing their own china in 1891 in Limoges, France. The company continued until it was dissolved due to the retirement of Tressemann in 1907. From 1907-1919, the company operated as Porcelain Gustave Vogt under the direction of Gustave Vogt, John Vogt's son, and continued to use the T&V mark. T&V is well known for its quality whiteware and boldly decorated hand paintings. The marks used on this set are the manufacturers underglaze mark in green referenced in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition as mark #5d. This mark was used from 1892-1907. This mark includes the patent information of being patented on April 2nd, 1889. (T&V had the reputation of always patenting their molds and designs prior to use.) In addition, there is also the purple overglaze decorator's mark (Gaston #12) which was used from 1907-1919. Gaston states this mark is rarely seen. Together, these marks date this set to 1907.
