This superb quality china has colors that are bright and vivid. This is painted on a blank of white fine china with wide white band that is very jagged following the embossing of the plate. Interestingly enough, the gold trim on the white has alternating concave/convex crescents on the rim. The sienna wash starts dark next to the white of the rim and fades to the verge. The flower garland is tastefully done with yellow & pink roses with green foliage. CONDITION: While this plate is classified as used, it is in superb condition. We can find no chips, cracks, hairlines, nicks, rubbings or repairs. There is no wear to the white of the points on the rococo mold. There is no wear to the gold crescents. There appears to be no crazing on the plate's front and only one craze line on the back. See the last photo. The lack of utensil scratches attests to the high quality of the fine china. The decorative plate is beautiful and classically decorated. DIMENSIONS: The decorative plate has a diameter of 8 5/8" and a height of 1". HISTORY/MARKS: L. Coiffe started the prolific Limoges porcelain factory and studio during the mid-1870’s and his son, E. Coiffe, continued the operation starting in 1887 and continuing until the mid-1920’s. The green manufacturer underglaze mark on this set is mark #2 in Mary Frank Gaston’s Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain , 3rd Edition. This mark was used from 1891 to 1914. It also has the red decorator mark from T&V. Begun in the 1850's, Vogt & Dose became Tressemann & Vogt when Emillien Tressemann joined the company in 1882. This was essentially a decorating studio which began manufacturing their own china in 1891 in Limoges, France. The company continued until it was dissolved due to the retirement of Tressemann in 1907. From 1907-1919, the company operated as Porcelain Gustave Vogt under the direction of Gustave Vogt, John Vogt's son, and continued to use the T&V mark. T&V is well known for its quality whiteware and boldly decorated hand paintings. The mark used on this plate is the overglaze decorator mark in red referenced in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain , 3rd edition as mark #11, used from 1892-1907.
