The 10 sided, reticulated deep bowl makes the design look so classic. This makes a beautiful display bowl or can be used everyday. The color palette used is: blue, yellow, orange, green, brown and pink with gold trim. The pink is a 1/2" wide band that draws your eyes to the birds. The vertical reticulations are 3/4" long. CONDITION: While this bowl is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks. There is no wear to the gold. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The 10 sided bowl has a diameter of 9 1/8" and a height of 2 1/2". HISTORY/MARKS: The factory was founded in 1881 by Christian Heinrich Schumann in Arzberg, Bavaria after being forced to close his previous pottery (founded 1876) due to the development of a rail road through the factory. Upon his death, the pottery was run by his widow until his youngest son, Carl Schumann I, married in 1896 and assumed management. The company was incorporated in July of 1923. In 1926, Carl’s son, who had been studying in America, assumed leadership after his father’s untimely death at 55. After WWII, the pottery flourished, but never regained its prior success as Japanese products flooded the American & European markets. The business stayed in the family until it was closed in 1994. The mark on this set is identified by the website PM&M (porcelainmarksandmore) as mark #2-14 which was used in the 1918-1929 time period.
