The pattern consists of sprays of multicolored flowers with green leaves. The background colors are cream & white. The rims are trimmed in gold including the foot of the sugar bowl and all 3 handles are painted in solid gold paint. This is on the 8 sided Pilgram (#1217) mold. Notice that some of the flowers on the bowl are wrapped around the lip of the bowl into the interior. This so unusual. CONDITION: While this bowl is classified as used, the condition is superb. We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing with the exception of very minor wear on the lid knob. The lack of utensil scratches on the bowl attests to the high quality of the porcelain china. The colors and gold paint show no other wear. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The sugar bowl has a height of 4 1/8” to the top of the lid. It is 8-sided at the top and circular at the bottom. The maximum diameter at the top is 5 9/16". The measurement from handle to handle is 6 1/8”. The bottom diameter is 3". The capacity is 12 ounces. HISTORY/MARKS: The American-born David Haviland settled in Limoges, France in 1842 operating a porcelain exporting business to the USA. He purchased white ware from various factories and shipped it to his New York decorating studio. In 1847, he established a decorating studio in Limoges. He started producing porcelain in Limoges in 1865 and decorating it on site. His sons, Charles Edward and Theodore, continued the prosperous business after David’s death in 1879. Theodore left to establish his own firm in 1892 and was joined by his son, William, in 1903. In 1919, Theodore died and his firm passed on to his son. It remained in the Haviland family until 1972. The company known as Haviland Limoges is still in operation today. The green underglaze mark on this is mark #29 as cited in Mary Frank Gaston’s Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain which was used from 1920-1936. It also has the orange shield decorator's mark for Haviland. The sugar bowl is on the Pilgrim mold which was produced in the mid 1920’s-1960’s. This is dated to the circa 1920-1936 time period.
