A colour chrome postcard looking north along Main Street from Portage Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba, a busy downtown scene with 1950s cars and taxis, a bus, trolley wires and pedestrians, flanked by tall commercial blocks including the Canadian National ticket office sign, the McIntyre Block and a Lake of the Woods Five Roses flour sign. The back carries the printed caption Main St. Looking North from Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, card number P39273, published by Western Smallware and Stationery Co. Ltd., Winnipeg, on a Plastichrome card by Colourpicture Publishers of Boston. Oddly it was mailed from the United States, bearing a U.S. 3 cent stamp tied by a Buffalo N.Y. machine cancel dated September 1955, with a handwritten message addressed to Washington state.
