Vintage Mexican Sterling Silver Ring with Malachite & Onyx (Size 11) Taxco TF-83 Vintage Mexican Sterling Silver Ring with Malachite & Onyx (Size 11) Signed by TF-83 This ring is composed of a single piece of green malachite and two pieces of onyx, inlayed into a beautiful silver ring High levels of craftsmanship are evident in this piece, as is to be expected from a Taxco silversmith The stone's name derives from Greek "molochitis lithos" (mallow-green stone). The mineral was given this name due to its resemblance to the leaves of the Mallow plant.  Archeological evidence indicates that the mineral has been mined and smelted to obtain copper at Timna Valley in Israel for over 3,000 years. Since then, malachite has been used as both an ornamental stone and as a gemstone.
