Alice lived from about 1920-1988. They were both active in producing jewelry from the 1940's until about 1988. They are perhaps the most famous for their freestyle channel inlay work (like this buckle), carved fetishes (she learned that skill from her famous father), and mosaic overlay buckles, necklaces, etc. As a noted Zuni artists, their work is featured in several high end galleries and collections in many of the major Native Jewelry catalogs and reference books. This is signed "ALH" as these pieces usually are. There is no ambiguity as to the identity of the makers. It is guaranteed to be Sterling Silver and authentic. The wonderful Mother Of Pearl is radiant and dazzles in even low light conditions! Because it is "NOS" New Old Stock, and had not been worn, naturally I have found no defects. I believe that you will be pleased! The workmanship distinguishes this buckle and helps define it as being made by Alice Leekya Homer and her husband Bernard Homer Sr. It features a channel inlay pattern of several Mother of Pearl Shells with wonderful color and character. The Buckle is built up on a Sterling Silver base that has numerous pieces of Shell set tightly into the intricate Sterling Silver frame of the freestyle form. I love the variation in the color shades of the Shell and the composition of the Sterling Silver Channels that create such and intriguing pattern. This is a large Buckle. I also have a similar and compatible Bolo, Buckle Bolo Sets, and other similar but "less large" Buckles and Bolos made by them in my eBay Store. This has a subtle and powerful beauty that may appeal to you. This is a highly desirable and magical museum quality piece. Because of its large size, it is rare. I've traded lots of "fish scale" buckles and bolos made by other artists. Those made by Bernard Homer Sr. and his wife Alice Leekya Homer are something entirely different and wonderful! This amazing Buckle is full of character and may be recognized by many people that know quality collectible Native jewelry. When you take a look at the pictures, please inspect the buckle pendant carefully for the fine detail in both design and execution. Your friends may compliment you and your taste in Zuni Jewelry. Thanks! Shipping anywhere in the USA is included, insurance is also included, of course...
