The strand is made of tumbled and polished pieces of fluorite, having no sharp edges. The name fluorite (Latin - to flow) follows its being used as flux.  Fluorite has a vitreous luster, its ranges in many colours, and even colourless.  The distribution of colours is often zonal or spotty.  Fluorite has a hardness of 4 on Mohs' scale.  Deposits are found in Bavaria, Argentina, Burma (Myanmar), England, Namibia, Austria, Switzerland and the United States. The strand is made of tumbled and polished pieces of fluorite, having no sharp edges.  Their size is small to medium; between 4 & 9 mm's.  Since gemstones formed naturally, each nugget is a unique treasure, and no two necklaces are alike.  Each chip is drilled and strung to 36 inches of nylon (not thin fishing line) and tied in a knot.  Beaders can use these chips to make other strung gem or bead jewelry.  I wear mine just as it is, tied in a knot. I did not add a clasp. Nylon is waterproof and will not rot like cloth or silk thread. You can easily wear this strand for years without a clasp.  Nylon is tough stuff.  I have worn mine for a few years and have never had in trouble.
