The two halves are identical outside and screw together. J. L. Baldwin ( the only known maker of oreo cases) patented the screw type mold for the production of the oreo case in 1862. Inside there is a tintype photo of a man. Very rare brown "oreo" gutta percha case with a geometric design. The two halves are identical outside and screw together. Inside there is a tintype photo of a man. In the book, Ninteenth Century Photographic Cases and Wall Frames by Paul K. Berg, on p. 299 this case is identified as 3-514. J. L. Baldwin ( the only known maker of oreo cases) patented the screw type mold for the production of the oreo case in 1862. By the end of the 1860s, miniature cases had become obsolete. The case screws together easily. Excellent condition with only one small chip noted. Measures 1 3/4" in diameter. Image is 1" in diameter. The tintype has some bubbling and crazing.
