The substantial book has rigid leather-covered boards, gilt-edged pages, decorative printed endpapers, and thick window-mount pages made to hold cabinet cards and smaller cartes de visite. The black front cover features an attractive painted or polychrome bird-and-water-lily scene. Construction appears to be leather over heavy binder’s board rather than exposed solid hardwood. Four raised metal feet are present on the back. A small metal fitting remains along the fore edge, but the closing clasp or latch is missing. The album is empty; no photographs, cabinet cards, CDVs, tintypes, or loose inserts are included. Heavily worn antique condition with pronounced rubbing, scratches, cracking and loss to the cover surface, exposed board at corners and edges, fraying along the spine and borders, age toning, stains, and tears around several photograph openings.
