This specific design is a mid-to-late 20th-century revival pattern inspired by Aode Kutani (Green/Blue/Yellow Kutani), a historical style from the 17th century characterized by bold yellow and deep blue/green/yellow glazes covering the entire surface of the piece. The set was commissioned and imported by the Takahashi Trading Company, a famous high-end Japanese-American family business based in San Francisco. Founded by Henri and Tomoye Takahashi after World War II, the company peaked from the 1970s through the 1990s, importing fine artisanal Japanese porcelain and home goods to boutiques and museum shops across the United States. The porcelain used in this set was made and hand-decorated in Japan using the traditional Kutani style.
