See the photos. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. There is no wear on the gold. DIMENSIONS: The salad plates have a diameter of 7 1/2" with a height of 11/16". HISTORY/MARKS: Brothers, Christian & Johann Seltmann, opened their factory in 1901 in Vohenstraub, Bavaria. Disputes caused Christian to leave & establish his own factory in Weiden, Bavaria in 1910. The Seltmann company was one of the first porcelain manufacturers that not only offered porcelain items but also provided an additional product range of fine glass. After the untimely death of Christian in 1921, his widow, Katharina managed it until 1928 when she handed the companies over to their two sons with the son, Wilhelm, taking the factory in Weiden. The whole family group today is one of the largest manufacturers of porcelain in Germany. The mark on the bottom of these plates is that of the Christian Seltmann Porcelain Factory in Weiden, Bavaria, Germany. The mark #1261 was used between 1954-1990 when Germany was reunified as cited in Robert E. Rontgen’s Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present.
