In 1899, the son of the John Anysley II (of Anysley China), Herbert James, along with several associates formed Star China Company. To emphasize their high quality, Star China introduced the name Paragon China in 1903 and later changed the company name to Paragon China Company in 1920. In 1927, Hugh Irving became sole proprietor upon the retirement of Herbert Aynsley, his father-in-law. Paragon was granted several Warrants of Appointment by the Royal Family in the 1933-1958 time period. Thomas C. Wild & Sons (Royal Albert) took over Paragon China in 1960, then merged with the Lawley Group to become Allied English Potteries in 1964, subsequently Paragon and Royal Albert joined the Royal Doulton Group in 1972, and finally the Paragon name discontinued in 1992. This superb quality decorative cup & saucer set has a most unusual blue trim, handle and geometric decorations. The interior of the saucer and the cup's inside are so decorated. While this set is classified as used, we can find no chips, nicks, rubbings, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. We do see where the bright blue paint has been bumped off in several very small spots. Otherwise, there appears to be absolutely no wear to the vivid colors and no crazing. The lack of utensil scratches on the cup and saucer attests to the high quality of the bone china. See the photos to judge for yourself. The cup & saucer are beautiful and elegantly decorated. The saucer has a diameter of 5 1/4" and a height of 7/8". The smooth rimmed cup has a diameter of 3 5/8" and stands 1 7/8" high. As collectors ourselves, we tend to be very picky and find it necessary to point out anything we see. We believe you will be very satisfied with this decorative cup & saucer set.
