This is a T&V hand painted tray on a blank of white fine china with an embossed and a scalloped rim. There are greyish green ghost leaves in the background to give depth to the painting. This is further accented with raised gold scrollwork. The background washes vary from dark green to light green to blush. The beautiful purple violets have tiny raised white centers. CONDITION: While this tray is classified as used, it is in superb condition. We can find no chips, cracks, hairlines, nicks, rubbings or repairs. There's no wear to the gold or the paint. The lack of scratches attests to the high quality of the fine porcelain. The decorative tray is beautiful. DIMENSIONS: The rectangular tray is 10 1/8" by 7" with a height of 5/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Begun in the 1850's, Vogt & Dose became Tressemann & Vogt when Emillien Tressemann joined the company in 1882. This was essentially a decorating studio which began manufacturing their own china in 1891 in Limoges, France. The company continued until it was dissolved due to the retirement of Tressemann in 1907. From 1907-1919, the company operated as Porcelain Gustave Vogt under the direction of Gustave Vogt, John Vogt's son, and continued to use the T&V mark. T&V is well known for its quality whiteware and boldly decorated hand paintings. The mark used on this tray is the manufacturer's underglaze mark in green referenced in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition as mark #5a. This mark was used from 1892-1907. This makes the circa for this beautiful tray 1892-1907. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
