This set is a beautiful, completely original pair of 5-inch antique German dollhouse-size wedding figurines, circa 1895–1915. They are unmarked, featuring the classic traits of  Hertwig & Co.  from the Thuringia region of Germany. Both dolls feature finely hand-painted bisque shoulder heads with molded blonde hair, bisque lower forearms, and bisque lower legs attached to their original stuffed cloth bodies. They remain completely intact in their vibrant, original regional German folk costume ( Trachten ) attire. The country-style clothing is beautifully accented with miniature pink fabric roses on the garments, representing authentic Black Forest or Alpine bridal tradition. No chips, cracks, or hairline fractures found on the bisque heads or limbs. The fabrics are completely original and show typical age-appropriate minor dust/wear.   The boy doll’s clothes are in excellent condition for their age, no dry-rotting and stitching remains in tack. The girl doll’s clothes do have some dry-rotting, basically the green/blue dress with shoulder straps/scarf.    The lace on her petticoat, bloomers, apron & bonnet are intact, not torn & no stitching is missing.   I would not remove the girl’s clothing but did remove the boy’s clothing to capture how the dolls are made.  The boy’s stuffed body does have staining.  I could not determine the girl’s body condition, only to say it is not broken.   I purchased the wonderful little antique doll set aprox 30 years ago at a major Antique/Flea Market/Show in the Greater Kansas City Area.  The seller told me the doll set was at least 100 years old & it was called a “Wedding” Set.   Dolls come with their metal stands.  Please feel free to ask questions.
