The scene is executed with exceptionally heavy impasto, with thick, expressive applications of paint creating an almost sculptural surface. Rich reds, ochres and earthy browns in the boat and figures contrast beautifully with the pale blue-green water and atmospheric sky. Small details of the fishermen and harbor emerge from the layers of palette-knife work when viewed up close. Presented in a substantial dark wood-tone frame with a linen liner and smaller inner frame. The painting itself is unsigned as far as I can determine.
