There are not simply painted on- these are ACTUAL maple leaves which have been pressed into the wet clay and burn away during firing.   Vintage WIZARD OF CLAY Wheel Thrown SPECKLED STONEWARE Art Pottery Mug BRISTOLEAF Size 4.5" high x 3.25" across top. Base is 2.75" diameter. Holds 14 ounces liquid with plenty of headspace at top.  A completely handmade design which is thrown on a pottery wheel Features the Wizard Of Clay patented BRISTOLEAF pattern of leaves. There are not simply painted on- these are ACTUAL maple leaves which have been pressed into the wet clay and burn away during firing. This leaves an exact impression of the leaf including veins and every individual irregularity along the leaf edges Leaves are gathered locally from around the Studio The Wizard Of Clay experiments with various leaves and various color glazes, so that no two mugs are ever identical. This mug is spectacular- it has Japanese Maple leaves impressed into the speckled clay. It has been glazed with a soft oyster-mushroom color [not pure white] at the top, and below the leaves glazed with a soft, sage green The natural speckles in the clay are a warm, light caramel color and are scattered throughout. Same for the inside. Inside of mug shows very faint concentric circles from being thrown on a wheel  Handle is a large easy-grip style with grooves to prevent it from slipping while being held Shape of the mug is lovely- a rounded belly and a smooth, slightly extended rim lip. Rim is sage green.    Smooth gloss finish inside and out Lead free glaze, microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe On underside of base, there are the appropriate WIZARD OF CLAY embossed name as well as BRISTOLLEAF. There is an identifier number impressed, of IIZI4 [each Artisan at WOC has their own individual identifier number].  An unusual and unique mug. Would make a fantastic everyday mug, as well as a thoughtful gift Excellent PRISTINE condition, no damage. No nicks chips cracks crazing or wear. Glaze unfaded and lovely. See all pics and use zoom.
