The abalone remains beautifully iridescent. Beautiful vintage Mexican belt buckle featuring shimmering genuine abalone shell mosaic inlay set into a silver-tone alpaca metal frame. The abstract geometric design has gorgeous flashes of turquoise, blue, green, lavender and pink depending on the light. A really striking piece of vintage Mexican artisan work with a Southwestern / bohemian / 70s aesthetic. Back is stamped: ALPACA HECHO EN MEXICO — Made in Mexico “Alpaca” refers to Mexican nickel silver, a silver-tone copper/nickel/zinc alloy rather than sterling silver. Similar Mexican alpaca and abalone buckles are commonly attributed to the 1970s. Measurements: approximately 3” wide × 2” tall. Good vintage condition with authentic age-related patina, surface scratching, oxidation/tarnish and wear to the reverse. The abalone remains beautifully iridescent.
