Illustrated by the artist Curtis, whose signature appears at lower left, the design belongs to Tuck's celebrated novelty Valentine series in which immigrant and folk-costume figures deliver their affectionate messages in phonetic dialect — a format hugely popular in the Edwardian era. Published by Raphael Tuck & Sons Co. Ltd., New York, under their 1902 copyright, the card retains its bright chromolithographic colors and embossed wood-grain frame detail.
