Rare Factory Numerical Dial Error!For serious horology collectors, this is a remarkable and highly unusual 19th-century French ormolu mantel clock featuring a true factory assembly defect. Rather than a linear 1-to-12 sequence, the craftsman mistakenly placed a duplicate "5" cartouche where the "3" should be, creating a face sequence that reads: 1, 2, 5, 4, 5, 6... Enamel errors of this nature are incredibly scarce, as pieces that bypassed quality inspectors rarely survived to the present day intact.Design & BuildGilt Case Construction: A solid, heavy gilt-bronze/brass structure adorned with Neoclassical motifs. Features two beautifully cast winged caryatid figures flanking the sides as architectural columns, topped by an ornate scroll crest.Dial Artistry: Features an intricate, pierced brass center filigree pattern ringed by individual recessed numeric cartouches.Internal Mechanical Works: The rear access door opens to expose a clean, premium-grade French brass mechanical movement mounted to a deep resonant coiled cathedral gong loop. The movement plate features original production batch stamps and structural alignment markings confirming its authentic late 19th-century European lineage. I brought this back from London.
