The bottom rim of the bell is scalloped and within each scallop is an etched circular 'pearl of wisdom', which legend says that the dragon is always chasing but can never fully catch. Makes a BEAUTIFUL clear ringing tone when struck that is quite loud.   Vintage HEAVY Large BUDDHIST TRIPLE DRAGON Temple Bell Asian SOLID BRASS No Gong Size: stand is 8.25" high x 8.5" across base x 2 5/8" deep Bell itself is 5.5" long including soldered-on heavy curved brass hanging hook. Base of bell is 3.25" diameter  HAND CAST BRASS> Quality is 'best of the best'- craftsmanship is stunning.   Features a beautiful pattern going around completely bell, with clouds and sunbursts below him. The bottom rim of the bell is scalloped and within each scallop is an etched circular 'pearl of wisdom', which legend says that the dragon is always chasing but can never fully catch There is Japanese lettering hand etched into the side of the bell in a vertical line. This could either be an Artist signature or a phrase.  The stand that the bell hangs from is marvelous- a bow at top with a dragon profile flanking each side. Dragons are etched with details on each side and so this piece can be displayed on either side.  Bottom of the stand has a pierced Double Happiness symbol Underside of base sits up on 4 small feet  Makes a BEAUTIFUL clear ringing tone when struck that is quite loud Excellent condition- no nicks cracks chips scratches or dents. There is some slight patina as is normal for age, and the pierced Double Happiness has some greening to the brass. This may be able to be polished w brass cleaner but I will leave that option to buyer. The patina adds charm and age.
