These Mexican black onyx and sterling silver screwback earrings feature carved onyx faces, perhaps inspired by old Mayan or Aztec face masks. The earrings date from sometime in the 1920s to mid-1940s. The mark on the back of both earrings - "Silver Mexico" - was used before the Eagle marking system was started. This mark is on both earrings in the back on the circle beneath the screwbacks. Also, there are other markings on the back of one of the earrings - "925" and "Hecho en Mexico" - also initials "D F." On the back of the other earring, there are markings, but not as clear; for example: the "5" on the "925" mark is no longer visible. The earrings are .75 inch high and .5 inch wide.
